This twin needle sews 2 parallel rows of straight stitches at once, 2mm, 3mm or 4mm apart, for T-shirt hems, double topstitching and pintucks. All 3 gaps are size 90/14, a medium needle for jersey, cotton and linen.
Two needles share one flat shank, so it fits a home sewing machine like a regular needle. The bar between them reads 2/90, 3/90 or 4/90: gap, then size. Thread 2 spools on top; underneath, the bobbin thread zigzags between the rows so a knit hem can stretch.
Best Uses
- T-shirt and dress hems in our cotton single jersey: the 3mm or 4mm needle sews the double-row hem you see on ready-to-wear tees.
- Sweatshirt hems, cuffs and pocket edges in French terry from 260 to 350 GSM, where the zigzag on the back lets the hem stretch over the hips.
- Neckbands in our rib knit: a 3mm double row on the body side holds the seam allowance flat.
- Pintucks on light cotton and linen with our pintuck presser foot. The 2mm needle makes the finest tucks of the three.
Not For
Straight-stitch-only machines, industrial machines and sergers: a twin needle needs a home machine with a zigzag stitch. Also not for jeans seams, 12 oz canvas or other thick layers, where a twin needle can bend. Use a single jeans needle there. On chiffon, voile and batiste, size 90/14 is too heavy and can leave holes.

Sewing Tips
- Use your zigzag foot: its wide opening lets both needles through. Turn the handwheel by hand for the first stitch to check that neither needle hits the plate.
- Turn on the twin needle setting if your machine has one, and thread both eyes by hand. Only one spool of a color? Wind a spare bobbin and use it as the second top thread.
- These needles aren't sold as stretch needles. On knits with spandex, test on a scrap first: if stitches skip, switch to a stretch twin needle.
Pairs With
- White 40/2 Polyester Sewing Thread: 4,000 or 5,000 yd cones, enough for both top threads and the bobbin.
- Black 40/2 Polyester Sewing Thread: the same thread for dark knits.
- Snap-On Pintuck Presser Foot and 3 Twin Needles: a 5, 7 or 9 groove foot for rows of raised tucks.
How to Order
- Quantity = number of needles. Pick the gap above: 2mm, 3mm or 4mm.
- Need all 3 gaps? Our pintuck foot set has one of each plus a snap-on pintuck foot.
Questions About This Product
Will it fit my sewing machine?
Yes, if your machine sews zigzag and threads the needle front to back, like most home machines from Brother, Singer and Janome. It doesn't fit straight-stitch-only machines, industrial machines or sergers.
Which gap should I choose?
The gap sets the look: 2mm for fine pintucks and narrow topstitching, 3mm or 4mm for knit hems. Your machine's widest zigzag must be wider than the gap; most home machines sew 5mm to 7mm wide.
Why is there a zigzag on the back?
The bobbin thread catches both top threads and crosses between them. That zigzag gives the hem some stretch. If the fabric ridges up between the rows, loosen the upper tension a little.
