From Our Workroom
Sew rhinestone trims and appliqués by hand with strong polyester thread, through the base and never over a stone. Press around them, never on them: heat can loosen the stones.
Iron-on patches need a fabric that takes a hot iron, such as cotton denim, twill or canvas. On nylon spandex and other heat-sensitive fabric, sew the patch on instead.
Our natural cotton twill tape can shrink in the first wash, so wash it before you sew it in. Wash cotton lace the same way before you sew it to a garment you plan to wash.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which trims are iron-on?
Only the embroidered patches. Rhinestone trims and appliqués have no hot-fix glue: sew them on, or glue them with an E6000-type adhesive on shoes and bags.
How are trims sold?
Rhinestone trim, lace, chiffon ribbon and the colored twill tape by the yard, and several yards of rhinestone trim are cut as one continuous piece. Denim ribbon comes in pre-cut 2-yard pieces, appliqués and patches by the piece, and the rhinestone bodice appliqué by the pair.
How do I wash trims?
Rhinestone trims and appliqués: hand wash or spot clean only. Lace and chiffon ribbon: hand wash cold and dry flat. Colored twill tape: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle.
