Lining Fabrics
Find the right lining fabric for your next sewing or tailoring project. A good lining helps a garment slip on easily, covers the inside seams and helps it keep its shape.
- Polyester twill lining: soft, smooth 230T twill in 100% polyester with a light sheen, shrink-resistant and easy care, in 7 solid colors: black, pure white, gray, dark gray, navy, dark blue and khaki.
- Poly-viscose jacquard linings: 57% polyester, 43% viscose with a woven dot or paisley pattern, 57-58" (145-147 cm) wide.
Use them for coats, jackets, blazers, suits, vests, skirts, dresses and bags. All lining fabric is sold by the yard, and multiple yards ship as one continuous piece.

The twill lining comes in Black, Pure White, Gray, Dark Gray, Navy, Dark Blue and Sand Beige (see polyester lining fabric). The jacquard comes in Black, Navy, Teal, Taupe, Burgundy, Mauve, Champagne, Dark Purple and two grays (see viscose dot jacquard linings).

Lining is slippery. Cut it in a single layer on a flat table, and pin only inside the seam allowance: pins can leave holes in fine polyester. Use a sharp or Microtex needle, 70/10 or 75/11, at a stitch length of 2 to 2.5 mm.
Cut the back lining with a 1" pleat at center back, so the lining gives when you reach forward instead of pulling on the coat. Press on a low (synthetic) setting with a press cloth, because a hot iron can leave shiny marks on polyester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which lining should I use for a coat?
The 230T polyester twill for everyday coats and jackets: it's smooth, so the coat slides on over other clothes, and it's shrink-resistant. Pick the dot jacquard when the lining shows, as in an open blazer.
How do I wash the twill lining?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry low or hang to dry. Don't bleach, and iron on a low (synthetic) setting.
How is lining sold?
By the yard. Multiple yards are cut as one continuous piece.
