From Our Workroom
A basic kit for garment sewing: a 60" soft tape, a box of pins, a chalk pencil or a water-erasable pen, a seam ripper, small curved scissors, and thread in black and white. Add a rotary cutter and a cutting mat when you start quilting.
Mark on the wrong side of the fabric, and test chalk and pens on a scrap first. Take water-erasable pen lines out with water before you press: heat can set the ink.
Pull each pin before it reaches the presser foot, and take pins out before you iron. Sewing over a pin can break the needle, and plastic pin heads melt under a hot iron.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which thread should I use for everyday sewing?
40/2 polyester, a medium all-purpose weight for cotton, linen, denim and knits. Sew it with a size 80/12 or 90/14 universal needle. Ours comes in black and white, 4,000 or 5,000 yards each.
Do the hand presses come with dies?
No. Each press is sold on its own, without dies or fasteners.
