Cut neckbands and cuffs shorter than the opening, then stretch the rib evenly as you sew it on, so the band lies flat and hugs the body.
Rib stretches most across the ribs, so lay it flat to cut and don't let it hang off the table. Use a ballpoint or stretch needle, 75/11 or 80/12, with a narrow zigzag or a serger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which rib should I use for cuffs and neckbands?
The cotton rib, with 5% spandex, for hoodies and sweatshirts. On rayon or lyocell tops, cut the bands from the same rib as the top.
How do I wash rib knit?
Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle with similar colors. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low, and don't bleach.
How is rib knit sold?
By the yard. Multiple yards are cut as one continuous piece.
