One sew-on glass rhinestone appliqué in Gold Base with Emerald, 23.5 x 12.7 cm (9.25 x 5 in) and 2.5 oz (71 g), shaped like a leafy branch on twisted wire. The stones are emerald green, and the wire and settings are gold-tone. Three flowers of large marquise stones run along the center stem, and each petal sits in a metal setting rimmed with small round rhinestones. Smaller marquise stones branch out around them like fern leaves. There's no backing, so the whole piece bends with the wire.

From Our Workroom

There's no tulle or felt behind the stones. Each small leaf is a marquise stone with a loop of wire fixed to its back, and the leaves branch off twisted wire stems, so your fabric shows between them. Pin the piece in place, then stitch over the wire stems and around the flower settings, working out from the center so it lies flat. Check the back for sharp wire ends and press them flat before you sew, so they don't scratch skin or snag fine fabric.

At 2.5 oz (71 g), each piece pulls on thin or stretchy fabric, so back the spot with a scrap of tulle or interfacing first. The stems bend, so you can curve the piece along a neckline or a headband. Bend at the stem, a little at a time, not at a leaf. The leaf tips reach past your stitches and can catch on lace and knits, so store the appliqué flat and on its own. Each piece is wired by hand, and leaf placement varies slightly from piece to piece.
