Is spandex good for swimwear?
Yes. Nylon spandex is one of the most common swimwear fabrics because it stretches, recovers and dries quickly.
What's the difference between matte and holographic spandex?
Matte spandex has a smooth, low-shine surface for everyday swim and activewear. Holographic spandex has a foil finish that reflects rainbow light, made for dance, cheer, stage and costumes.
How is spandex sold?
By the yard. Multiple yards are cut as one continuous piece.
How do I care for spandex?
Matte spandex: hand wash or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and hang to dry. Holographic and foil spandex: hand wash cold only, inside out, and line dry. Avoid high heat, bleach and ironing for both.

From Our Workroom
Cut with the most stretch going around the body, and use clips or pin only inside the seam allowance. Use a stretch or ballpoint needle, 75/11 or 80/12, with a narrow zigzag, a stretch stitch or a serger, so the seams stretch with the fabric.
Light colors like White and Nude can show through when wet or stretched. For swimwear, line the front, or the whole suit, with a second layer.
Never iron the foil side of the holographic, mystique or faux leather spandex. Like all foil finishes, the shine can soften with heavy wear and washing, so turn costumes inside out to wash them.

What's the difference between the 80/20 and the 88/12 matte spandex?
The 80/20 has 20% spandex and weighs 200 GSM, so it holds firmer. The 88/12 has 12% spandex and weighs 180 GSM, for a lighter, softer feel.
How do I wash spandex?
Matte spandex: hand wash or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out, then hang or lay flat to dry. Foil spandex: hand wash cold, inside out, with mild detergent and line dry. Don't bleach, tumble dry or iron either one, and rinse swimwear in cool fresh water after the pool or the beach.
